Why Authenticating a Prada Bag Requires Rigor

The Interior Tag and Serial Number
Most Prada bags have a leather tag sewn inside, mentioning "Prada Milano", the country of manufacture, and a serial number. This number alone doesn't guarantee anything: it must be consistent with the model, material, and the presumed age of the item.
Points to Examine
The regular grain of Saffiano leather, the solidity of the stitching, the iconic metal triangle (weight, engraving, attachment), and the quality of the zipper are all elements to cross-reference. On canvas models, the resistance of the fabric and the finish of the hems are also telling.
