Why authenticating a Dior bag requires expertise
Dior bags are among the most counterfeited luxury items on the market. Unlike other fashion houses, Dior does not affix a unique serial number to all its models using a consistent system over time, making authentication by a single criterion insufficient.
Points to examine
The quality of the leather or Cannage canvas, the regularity of the quilting, the finish of the Dior charms and buckles, as well as the interior lining (often branded) are all elements that distinguish an authentic item from a counterfeit. The authenticity card provided at the time of new purchase is also a traceability element, when available.
The interior label
Depending on the era and line of the bag, a label with a reference number may be present inside, near the lining. This number alone does not guarantee authenticity but allows for cross-referencing information with the supposed model and period.
