The interior tag and serial number
Most Balenciaga bags have a leather tag sewn inside, stating "BALENCIAGA", "Made in Italy" and a serial number. The format of this number has evolved over the years of production, so its mere presence is not enough: it must be consistent with the model and the presumed era of the bag.
Points to examine
The characteristic soft lambskin leather, the regularity of the stitching, the quality of the zipper (often branded), and the metal buckles must be examined closely. Fringes and studs, when present, are also areas frequently poorly reproduced on counterfeits.
